AgTech Mobile App Development ~ Labour Efficiency Study
Brief: The client, Teagasc, wanted an Agricultural Survey to measure labour efficiency on Irish dairy farms. A Time & Motion study was required to measure how long it took individual farmers to complete daily routines such as milking, calf feeding, spreading fertiliser, etc.
Solution: A mobile phone app was developed by Acorn Agricultural Research which allowed farmers to record live what they were doing. Each farmer had their own individual profile. Farmers could enter data both live and retrospectively. They could also review their workday and make amendments where errors occurred.
Result: Farmers found the mobile phone app to be very user-friendly and therefore, had no problem entering data. The project was such a success that it was used in three further studies. The data from these studies formulated the basis of Teagasc’s dairy labour efficiency research for the past 5 years.
